It’s Monday morning, November 2, 2020 as I write this blog. It’s windy, overcast and cold here in Maine where I live with my husband Bill Free. Tomorrow is election day in the United States and by the time this blog is sent out to the Teachers of God mailing list on Wednesday, November 4th, the United States elections will have taken place.
From where I stand right now, on Monday morning, it’s anyone’s guess what Wednesday will look like.
That’s amazing, right? That life can change in an instant, with no warning.
That’s been 2020 in a nutshell.
We cannot predict what will happen in the next hour, day, week or year.
One thing I know for sure, something that I absolutely CAN predict with 100% accuracy: my peace will remain exactly the same on Wednesday as it is today, as it will be tomorrow, as it was yesterday and as it will be for every day of my life.
Nothing can disturb your peace, unless you fall asleep to the awareness of your True Self and forget what you are, Love’s Presence.
2020 has been a whirlwind year, with a lot of unexpected events that have changed the patterns and routines of how we live life.
I personally see it as a time of global awakening, an opportunity to remember the truth of our shared Oneness.
I am grateful for A Course in Miracles that it has step-by-step practices and fill-in-the-blanks so you can take any upset or problem you think you have and you can directly experience the “problem” disappear as it is replaced with peace.
I thought it might be helpful to give a quick practice here, for this perfect Wednesday morning, in case you are experiencing anything other than joy, gratitude, love, appreciation and peace right now.
Any time you feel your peace disturbed (or whenever you wish things were different):
STEP 1. Stop & Be Still.
Wherever you are, this is your place of peace and power. It’s not somewhere else. It doesn’t come later when circumstances change. It’s right here in the very place whereon you stand, which is holy ground. So Step 1. Stop. Be Still.
STEP 2: Notice any discomfort, thoughts, feelings, emotions or sensations.
Here in Step 2, you are simply going to become aware of what the mind is doing without trying to fix, change, improve or heal the thoughts or conditions or situations. Just notice. In The 40-Day Program for Transformation, I call this practice “watching your thoughts like a hawk.”
In Step 2, notice there is an “I” on the scene and it can show up as “I’m afraid” or “I’m angry” or “I feel ____” or “I wish this wasn’t happening” or “I don’t know what is happening.” It can also show up as “I am so excited” or “I am so glad my candidate won” or “I got what I wanted.”
STEP 3: Stay with the thoughts, feelings, sensations, discomfort, conflict fear, etc. (whatever is arising) as the observer and do NOT move away from it.
In almost all situations, most people want pain and fear “to go away”. They distract themselves. They say it’s not real. They look for a way to get rid of it. They call fear by another name. They use positive affirmations to feel good. This just keeps the fear and conflict right in place.
STEP 4: Realize “Conflict must be resolved.”
This is Workbook Lesson 333 in A Course in Miracles. In my work as a healer, I teach about Workbook Lesson 333 every single week, several times a week. In my own opinion, it’s the most important workbook lesson in A Course in Miracles if you want peace and happiness.
A lot of very dedicated spiritual seekers want to avoid pain instead of going straight into it.
A lot of very devoted Course in Miracles students feel guilt if they experience conflict and fear. They think they should NOT be experiencing fear. No where in A Course in Miracles does it say this. It’s not there. There is the mistaken belief that you should be happy all the time. And so quite often when an emotion arises that is not joy, love, peace, appreciation or gratitude, there is guilt and condemnation.
Today, let us resolve the conflict instead of feeling guilty about it.
Today, let us do what A Course in Miracles shows us to do, as laid out in Workbook Lesson 333.
Resolve the conflict.
Forgiveness ends the dream of conflict here.
Conflict must be resolved. It cannot be evaded, set aside, denied, disguised, seen somewhere else, called by another name, or hidden by deceit of any kind, if it would be escaped. It must be seen exactly as it is, where it is thought to be, in the reality which has been given it, and with the purpose the mind accorded it. For only then are its defenses lifted, and the truth can shine upon it as it disappears.
Father, forgiveness is the light You chose
to shine away all conflict and doubt,
And light the way for our return to You.
No light but this can end evil dreams.
No light but this can save the world. For this
alone will never fail in anything,
Being Your gift to Your beloved Son.
STEP 5: Know that you ARE this light, one with this light.
You are not the thoughts, feelings, emotions or sensations that that you think you experience. You are not your story. You are not memories. You are the light behind (below, above, beside and before) all of the activity of the mind and body. Know that you are Love’s Presence, one with God, one with everyone and everything. There is One Life. There is One Self.
Remember that whenever there is fear, right there is where the Love of God is.
Love is not somewhere else. It’s right here, in the very place where you find yourself.
You are the light of the world.
Your identification with this light (in place of identification with the body-self) shines away all conflict and doubt.
This light is what you are.
No matter who wins the presidential election, no matter what happens in the world, nothing can ever change our eternal, changeless perfection, our One Self, which shines and shines forever.
My suggestion is always the same if you are interested in waking up to your True Eternal Self as Love’s Presence and abiding there consistently: Get a copy of A Course in Miracles and do exactly as it says
And Oh Yea, one more thing: Make No Exceptions.
I love you.
